Meta Photo Contest 2008 Winners

1st Place: Ashley Valmere Fischer, a photography and imaging alumna from New York University with a minor in Latin American Studies, photographed her sister, Yvette,on a bus in Buenos Aires. Ashley studied abroad with World Learning/SIT Study Abroad in Valparaíso, Chile.

 

 

2nd Place:Lisa Wiley, a 2008 graduate of Wellesley College took this photograph of one of the last congregations of bound-feet women in Tonghai, Yunnan, China. Wellsley College submitted it to Abroad View's 2008 Meta Photo Contest. Wiley studied in Beijing with CET Academic Programs.

 

3rd Place: Soudeh Motamedi’s American-Egyptian host family in Cairo took her to the “Friday Market,” where locals buy everything from broken tiles to high-end electronics. The vendor pictured here tried to sell Motamedi a cell phone, demonstrating that it takes great pictures. “That’s when I pulled out my camera and took this photo,” says Motamedi. “We had lots of laughs…but no sale.”

Motamedi studied abroad with American University in Cairo. Her photo was submitted to Abroad View's Meta Photo Contest by Syracuse University, from where Motamedi graduated in May 2008 with M.A. degrees in economics and international relations.
